Diatomaceous earth (de) is made of tiny, fossilized diatoms (aquatic organisms) that accumulated over millennia in fresh water lakes.

Diatomaceous earth will not harm warm-blooded animals (like you or your pet) or red wiggler worms. Use it to treat your worm bin for parasites, fungus gnat larva and other unwanted insects. Compost worms are structurally different from insects in that they can actually digest particles of DE. The particles are then eliminated in their castings.

Diatomaceous earth causes insects to dry out and die by absorbing the oils and fats from the cuticle of the insect's exoskeleton. Its sharp edges are abrasive, speeding up the process. It remains effective as long as it is kept dry and undisturbed.

Sprinkle some at the surface of your worm bin and every time you feed your worms.
